Approximately 750,000 Israelis have flooded the streets in one of the largest protests in the country’s history, calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government to negotiate a deal for the release of captives still held in Gaza.

This unprecedented turnout follows the Israeli Army's recent announcement that it had recovered the bodies of six captives from a tunnel in southern Gaza.

Family members of Israeli captives and their advocates are holding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government accountable for not securing a truce deal that would ensure the captives' release.

Over 100 captives remain in Gaza, with the Israeli military estimating that about one-third may be dead. In November, Hamas released 105 captives in exchange for 240 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

The captives were taken following the October 7 attack in southern Israel, which resulted in at least 1,139 deaths. Since then, Israeli military actions have led to the deaths of more than 40,000 Palestinians in Gaza and extensive destruction of the coastal enclave, drawing widespread global criticism. Additionally, Israel has killed over 600 people in the occupied West Bank and detained nearly 10,000 Palestinians.
