Canelo Alvarez didn't deliver the knockout he promised but secured an impressive unanimous decision victory over Edgar Berlanga in their 12-round super middleweight fight.
The judges scored the fight 117-110, 118-109, and 118-109 in favor of Alvarez.
"I’m the best fighter in the world," Alvarez declared, receiving cheers from the sellout crowd at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Alvarez dropped Berlanga with a left hook in the third round while defending his super middleweight title.
However, Berlanga quickly got back up and endured the pressure through all 12 rounds.
Saturday's fight was touted as the latest installment in the boxing rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico, with Alvarez facing Berlanga, a New Yorker with Puerto Rican heritage.
"I could’ve done a lot more, but I was in there with a legend," Berlanga remarked.
Alvarez, now 34, improved his record to 62-2-2, while the 27-year-old Berlanga's record dropped to 22-1.
This marks Alvarez's sixth consecutive fight without a knockout, his last stoppage coming in 2021 when he defeated Caleb Plant by TKO in the 11th round.
